Wine Lovers Realize Their Dream Great Room

This couple was converting their kitchen, dining room and family room into one big open great room. They had already completed the design work before they called me and had their architectural drawings on the table when I arrived for our first meeting.

Tying the vision together…

Although the architect had done a preliminary placement of the sink, refrigerator and stove triangle, and island, they still hadn’t decided on the exact cabinetry layout and how the storage would be handled.  None of the materials or finishes had been chosen at that point and they didn’t even know where to start in the selection process.

They felt overwhelmed about the amount of decisions that needed to be made. They needed help!

Embracing Competition…

As I was preparing to leave our first meeting, I wished them luck interviewing other designers since I know it’s a process choosing who you’d like to work with. The husband acknowledged my wish then proceeded to tell me that they had already spoken to other designers but were certain that I was the one they wanted to work with after reading my reviews on Houzz.

Creating the Vision…

Soon after I provided them with the cabinet layout and helped them to choose the materials and finishes to stay true to their taste of Rustic meets Tuscan. I worked with them from start to finish while keeping true to their style, nudging them out of their comfort zone just enough to add elements they wouldn’t have thought of. Since they are also wine lovers and frequently visit the local wineries, they loved the fact that I encouraged them to choose elements for their kitchen and family room that spoke to that passion. They found cabinet hardware for their wine bar that had a wine cork motif and had an end table made for the family room that had a barrel top. I love what they’ve done with their new space. More importantly they love it too!
